Stages of Waste Water Treatment Process.
There is release of variety of waste from both domestic and industrial such as water, solids and gases. There are three main stages in the water treatment process. water flows through pipes by means of pumping or gravitational force. There is removal of floating and suspending solids in the reservoirs. Centrifugal force is applied at this stage. About 60% of solids will be removed at this stage. Removal of solids can be increased through addition of chemicals. water is then pumped to the secondary stage which is referred to as the organic stage. In this phase, the remaining biodegradable particles are provided as food to controlled organism such as fish. The organisms consume the biodegradable components in the water and remove the phosphates and nitrates in the water. This stage removes over 80% f the water impurities. Water released to the environment at this stage is not harmful.
However, to make the water pure, the third stage is incorporated. This phase is known as tertiary level, and the water released here can be used for different purposes. The water may be treated using various chemicals to ensure its safety. Some firms use chlorine to remove all impurities though it has become a subject of discussion in the recent.
Water pumped into the wastewater treatment plant should not contain industrial chemicals. The individual factory releasing such waters should take individual responsibility by establishing a treatment plant at their base before releasing such water.
